“I grew up in a pastoral area since I was little. I had to drop school after I finished grade 6 due to my family’s situation. My family depended on income from digging Cordyceps (caterpillar fungus) and doing short-term labor work. My husband and I have 2 children and my dream is for them to finish their schooling and to be able to go to university to study and have a good career.”
“In my uneducated state, it is difficult to find a place to work to earn sufficient money. Clothes are needed by each of us. Learning how to sew Tibetan and Mongolian clothes, and sell them is something that I knew I had to learn about. I joined the Husky Energy Tailoring Skills for Women Program in July 2019. This was my opportunity to change the future for my family.”
“In just over a month, with the help of my teacher, I was able to complete four shirts and a Tibetan dress. The teacher helped me cut out a shirt when I first started, and after four months, I can now do it by myself. I was clumsy at first but now I have mastered the skill of tailoring. I operate the sewing machine over and over again.”
“Learning Mongolian clothing is much more difficult than Tibetan clothing. There are 24 of us in the training program and in just four months of study time, most of us learned to make Tibetan and Mongolian clothing, as well as various shirts.”
“My exciting news is that I am an intern in a private custom clothing store. I know I will learn even more here. After the internship, my dream is to open a Tibetan clothing store and make money. I am very fortunate to be able to participate in this training. Thanks to everyone who helped make this happen for me and the other women in my class.”
