Building a Kinder Nepal: The Impact of Hamro Abhiyan on Nepali Students
Our implementing team in Nepal eagerly organizes workshops at local schools to raise awareness in far-flung provinces in Nepal like Karnali.
Jana Chetan Secondary School is a government institution in a rural area, serving students from six localities. Despite limited resources, it strives to provide quality education. The school recently hosted a memorable Hamro Abhiyan campaign event. Students, who typically walk an hour and a half to school, eagerly participated in this impactful session.
The event succeeded through close coordination with the Hamro Abhiyan team, presentations to community representatives, and collaboration with the school administration. It was heartening to see 86 students from grades 9 to 12 actively engaged during the 75-minute workshop. The school team’s unwavering support throughout the session greatly encouraged our team and the participants.
This particular Hamro Abhiyan Program at Jana Chetan showcased the power of collaboration, reaching a diverse community and inspiring young minds to learn about combating human trafficking.
The Hamro Abhiyan Anti-Trafficking program is being implemented across schools in impoverished communities where girls are at higher risk of trafficking. This program aims for maximum impact through its specific, interactive content tailored for school settings.
Hamro Abhiyan targets 500 schools across five high-risk trafficking regions in Nepal, impacting a total of 175,000 students. Most students come from poor, lower-class families, making them easier targets for traffickers. Each year, 6,500 students are handpicked from these schools to complete the Hamro Abhiyan program. Numerous presentations will be conducted annually, with these students then sharing the message with an estimated 25,000 peers. Impacting one student creates a world of difference and we are hopeful to influence more students this year.
