Captivating’s 2016 Library Program kicks-off

We are excited to announce the start of a new Captivating initiative for 2016 – equipping poor remote rural schools with their first library. This work flows on from our poverty alleviation programs taking place in remote locations, and we are excited about this low-cost, high impact work.

In conjunction with our partner charity in Qinghai, Shamtse, multiple libraries will be established this year – stocked with colorful, inspiring and educational books. In an attempt to help teachers and parents from rural poor locations, these libraries aim to motivate and inspire children to follow a path of life-long learning. Having a good education and sticking at school for as long as possible is their best door to a better future.

Our thanks to supporters of The Nanshan Challenge and The Shenzhen Midnight Charity Race for supporting our first two libraries for 2016. Also, our thanks to Shenzhen based International Schools – SWIS & Tairan International School – who have just commenced student focused fundraisers supporting 4 libraries in total. We hope other schools, families and companies can join with this program as well to bring inspiration and the joy of reading to hundreds of China’s rural poor students.

If you have an interest in adopting a library and funding the implementation, please contact crystal@captivating.org. We’ll give you an implementation report and a photo of the children you’ve helped holding up a personalised thank-you banner just for you. Total budgets (including books and furnishings) start from as little as US$1,000.
