Legu Meniuwai’s Healthy Pigs From Pig Farming Program
Families like Legu’s are just one emergency away from extreme poverty. During our visit, Legu shared how the pigs have eased her financial burden.
“My family lives in a rural village. Aside from a small piece of land that we tend, my husband and I have no other job or source of income. We work all day long just to put food on the table. However, at my old age of 60, I can no longer do much of the heavy work at home. I am weak and ill but we don’t have the money to see a doctor regularly. I have been fortunate that there is rural medical insurance that covered my basic health care expenses when I got hospitalized recently. But I know not everyone gets this same kind of privilege.
I’m grateful that your team came to our village to conduct health education programs and give away health products for free. Many of the families in my village don’t understand how to take care of their health. I have children and grandchildren and I will share with them what I learned from the doctors and nurses during this program. Thank you for organizing such an activity.” The benefits from this program reach even further than those who attended. As they go home and meet with their families and neighbors, the health information will be shared and the next generation will understand in a much better way the difference it makes when we look after ourselves and our children.
This is a story from one of the 283 village people who participated in one of the 11 stops of My Health, My Family, Our Safety Program. Thank you to Greg for sponsoring this village program.
