Last year Captivating piloted this new My First Job program with 10 young ladies who have fallen in love with cooking. Today, 9 of these girls have secured paid employment, using their new found skills in restaurants throughout Qinghai.

Most girls dream of independence and having their own career. There are many girls however, who don’t have the opportunity to pursue this dream. 60 girls in remote China have recently been told that their dreams of a good job and a future outside of herding the family yaks, has come true.

Seeing the reaction of a girl being told that she can complete vocational high school is priceless. And, thanks to some incredible initiatives being implemented by the Chinese Government to address the problem of rural high school attendance, an opportunity exists for Captivating and our partners to economically see more girls into vocational school programs.

Shortly after the school year ends in mid-July, our students head home for a short summer break. It’s a little teary, because we grow to love each of them. We miss each of the girls dearly and count down the days until we see them again.
