Easing the Family’s Burden

Drolmatso, 27, lives with her family of seven members in a remote area. She mostly stays home to take care of the household, look after their children and send them to school, and assist her elderly in-laws.

They solely depend on her husband and the income he earns from his part-time jobs. Because of this, Drolmatso wished to learn a new skill which she can use to earn a living and help her family’s income so her children can continue their education.

“I only finished primary school so it’s challenging for me to find a stable job and income. I had been looking for opportunities to participate in trainings like this, with local teachers so it’s easier for me to communicate. I submitted my application with the help of the coordinator, and fortunately, I started in July of 2020.”

“During the three-month training period, I made good friends with the other trainees. We had different challenges but we all helped each other. The teacher was also very kind and fair in providing us feedback. After learning about sizes, design, and tailoring techniques, we were finally tasked to make clothes from everything we’ve learned. I’m proud to share that I finished two transitional Tibetan clothes!”

“I now work in a local clothing store and my income has been helpful with our family’s finances. I hope more women will also receive this kind of opportunity. Thank you!”
