OMY: Mose to Become A Doctor
Mose, a bright and determined student, dreams of becoming a doctor after witnessing her illiterate parents face discrimination at a hospital.
After more than a month of thorough investigation and market demand research, the My First Job Embroidery Skills Training for women will commence this April. A total of 90 women – interviewed and selected among hundreds of families across six villages – will participate in the training in three different classes.
These women come from poor families and do not have the opportunity and/or ability to find flexible employment. Some of them cannot go out to work because they have old people and children to take care of at home. Through this skills training, we hope to help these women achieve flexible and nearby employment to help them increase their family income while being able to spend time with their loved ones.
The training will last for 60 days wherein the women will learn how to embroider hair sets and small handicrafts – a popular product within the region. They will learn under the care of three highly-experienced and awarded teachers. After the training, 70% of the trainees are expected to be able to independently complete the production of embroidered goods. We are hopeful and excited for these women to develop themselves well under good leadership.
January to June 2022 will see Captivating implement a total of four MY FIRST JOB programs across Qinghai Province, bringing hope and opportunity to 120 women and their families. Our thanks to ZURU for underwriting our MFJ Program, as well as key financial support from GPA, CAF America, SWIS and all who purchased a MFJ plush toy at our Annual Shenzhen Charity Auction.
