Liu Fengxia: Learning and Loving Art

Liu Fengxia’s story is truly inspiring. As one of the recipients of the One More Year Scholarship Program in China, she has been given the opportunity to discover her passion for art. Thanks to the generous donors of the program, Liu has been able to continue her education and discover her talent in skit and painting competitions at her school. It’s wonderful to see how this program not only helps girls finish one more year in school but also gives them a chance to explore their interests and potential:

“I am writing to you after six months to share some updates. I have ranked among the top sixty students in my school, which is an average position in my class. However, I am more motivated in my studies this semester. Our teacher organized a celebration for the Lantern Festival, and we enjoyed sweet dumplings and eggs. The most memorable event for me was the October Cultural Festival, where I participated in a skit and painting competition and won third and first prizes, respectively. Our dormitory also won third prize in a contest.

Girl Students Stands Smiling in Her Campus

Liu beams proudly in her campus

I have been drawing pictures for my cousin, and she likes them. I have noticed that my classmates are working harder this semester, and there is more pressure to study. The cherry blossoms on the campus have bloomed, and the beauty of pink shades has inspired me to study art. In another semester, my sister will take the college entrance exam, my younger sister will take the junior high school entrance exam, and my two younger brothers will start middle school. My parents will work even harder, and I worry about them, but I can do nothing. Therefore, I will do my best to do what I can now.

I am grateful for your help in supporting my impoverished family. If I ever meet you, I will hug you to express my gratitude. I wish you happiness every day, free from worries and light-hearted. Thank you once again for your endless support.”
