The Incredible Progress of Women in the Husky Energy Tailoring Skills Program
Over the past month since the Husky Energy Tailoring Skills Program for Women started, the students have diligently punched in every day.
I am Drolgakyid, a single mother of three, and this is my story.
The male-dominant culture has a far-reaching influence in my life. Many families prefer to keep their sons and marry off their daughters, unless there is a special reason for the daughter to stay at home. My marriage was an exception. My husband-to-be came to our home to ask my hand for marriage. However, after we divorced, I had to face the shame and pressure this has brought to me and my family.
I am still fortunate that me and my children still have a place to live. However, life has not been easy for us. I want to be strong for my three lovely daughters, and strive to provide them with better living conditions. This is why I really cherish the opportunity to participate in the My First Job Program. I hope to learn a new skill to improve our family’s income as well as set an example for my children. I regard this training as an opportunity – an opportunity to change the fate of my family, to make me stronger, and to make my children happy and proud of their mother.
Thank you to Zuru, SWIS, GPA Global and the Captivating Annual Charity Auction, for making this possible.
