OMY: Mose to Become A Doctor
Mose, a bright and determined student, dreams of becoming a doctor after witnessing her illiterate parents face discrimination at a hospital.
Bason Lhamo (Carrie – our Captivating Project Manager based in Qinghai) reports a successful start to our Pig’s For Poverty project in Qinghai Province. Tonight, 74 families are sleeping a touch more soundly thanks to them being the new proud owners of a quality pigsty and at least one quality sow. Thanks to financial support from Captivating’s Annual Charity Auction in Shenzhen, Oct last year, each family received materials enabling them to each construct their own pigsty, and a quality sow capable of producing upwards of 20 piglets each year. The families will sell the piglets each year and income will help to keep their kids in school amongst other things. Many families will elect to expand their operation, choosing to keep the best baby sow or two. It’s a really great solution for them.
Bason was present throughout the implementation and building of the pig houses. The results were impressive. Best of all, each family have agreed as part of the solution to pay this gift forward. Over the next few years, they will be working with Bason Lhamo and the Village Leader to provide 2 piglets to other struggling families in their community. It’s a gift that will keep on giving.
In the coming months, Bason will once again visit this village to see how this project has progressed. We look forward to sharing stories with you about how some families have benefited.
