After one month of being back in school, ‘The Golden Week’ arrived…when students and workers have a holiday to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival and China’s National Day. The girls enjoyed some sleep-in days to catch up on some rest – normally their school days start before 6:00 am, with lights-out at 10:30 pm. Thursday, we had a BBQ on the roof, where they each love to create their own spice combinations over chicken wings, hot-dogs and roasted potatoes, and then practice their dance moves to an eclectic mix of favorite songs. And of course we had moon-cakes and lots of fruit for dessert!
We slipped in a couple of work-days over the weekend, doing some deep-cleaning in the main kitchen, and filling in potholes in our little road before the next typhoon comes around. Most of the girls pitch in with great attitudes, and we love seeing the older girls grow in responsibility and leadership, watching them recognize what needs to be done and taking initiative.
And now, after weeks of unusually hot temperatures, we’ve had a couple days of rain – just perfect for a last day of sleeping in before heading back to the challenge of school!
