We believe that a lot of impoverished mothers have the chance to elevate their and their children’s living standards if only allowed to do so. Because of this, we started our One Hope Microfinance Program to provide microloans starting at PHP 6,000 (USD 102).

Zenaida and her “sari-sari” store.

One of our long-term beneficiaries is Zenaida. Through our program, she was able to start her sari-sari store—an establishment that helped her put her three kids into school and help her farmer husband put food on the table for many years. Her store’s success relied on her hard work and its strategic location, just between several compounds and houses—making it a go-to store for her community’s needs.

Through each loan she has taken, Zenaida has slowly grown her store’s inventory. Doubling a previous year’s sales in the next. She is also very disciplined in her loan repayments. She never missed a deadline and made sure to show up for her store every day.

It is no surprise that she remains an inspiration among other women in her fellowship group. Her successes may look aspirational from the outside, but in truth, it was an accumulation of discipline, hard work, and a positive attitude in life.
