Ganga Devi (39) is a mother of four. With her husband working abroad, she bears the whole responsibility of managing their household. She not only cares for her children, but she also supports her sons’ education. With all these people to support, her husband’s salary is not enough. She needed a reliable source of income.

When she heard about the My Business-My Freedom Microfinance Program (MBMF) through her neighbors, she immediately signed up to join a women’s group. Even though she joined just after hearing about it, this has been a very intentional choice for Ganga. Before she was even grouped with these women, she already knew what she would do once she started her entrepreneurial journey. She had already been pig farming and decided that this would be an excellent opportunity to expand her income source. She initially took out an NPR 10,000 (USD 64) loan, which she invested in buying two more pigs to add to her pen.

Due to her intentionality and care, her pigs grew healthy. She sold five for NPR 40,000 (USD 257) and used that money to repay her initial loan, pay for her family’s bills, and save up for rainy days.

Now that she is confident about her skills, she took out another NPR 60,000 (USD 385) to expand her farm! She used that money to construct a better shed, buy two more pigs, and invest the money in the pigs’ better care. Not only is she managing her own business, but she can also confidently attune to her role as a mother.

Ganga expresses her warmest thanks to our organization, partners, and donors for making this change possible in her life.
