Wei Jinling is one of the scholars under the One More Year Scholarship Program in China. She is very thankful for all the support and help she receives from our generous donors. In her recent letter, she shares how she overcame pressure and how she adjusted her mindset to change her current study habits to make way for more effective ones:

Hi there,

My name is Wei Jinling, and I wanted to update you on my progress since the back-to-school placement exam. I am happy to report that I have made significant progress, going from a rank of over 150 in the previous monthly exam to 78. While I didn’t make it into the top 60 in the whole school, I am satisfied with my academic performance.

I have chosen the history, geography, and politics combination, which I find more suitable. I am now placed in Class 2210, where my classmates are quite impressive. They are all top students in the combination, ranking within the top fifty in the grade. However, this adds to the pressure on me, especially considering my less-than-ideal math scores. I fear it might hinder my progress, but I haven’t given up.

Wei Ling is ready to take on the challenge

I am attending classes diligently and doing exercises. However, I sometimes lose interest in the subject but I believe that in the future, I will allocate more time to overcome the challenge of mathematics.

In the new class, I’ve met new classmates and some new teachers. The students in the class are all very diligent in their studies. However, this has unintentionally added a lot of pressure on me and I am having a hard time adjusting.

It wasn’t until last weekend, when I went home and chatted with friends studying in another county that my mentality was adjusted. My friend has been very outstanding and intelligent since childhood, and now studying in the best high school in the city. She has always encouraged me, saying, “Don’t be discouraged. Gold will always shine! I’m waiting for you in our beautiful future!” These words immediately woke me up, and I realized that there was an error in my study methods. I promptly formulated a study plan to be more effective in my studies.

Lastly, I want to express my sincere thanks to the sponsor and the staff of Captivating. Thanks to the sponsor’s assistance, the financial burden on my family has been greatly reduced, easing my concerns about going to school. Your selfless dedication to students like us is truly appreciated. I will never forget it.
