The One Hope Microfinance Program‘s main mission is to protect vulnerable women from the threat of sexual exploitation by providing loans for sustainable micro-entrepreneurship. With the help of our local partner, Sanghaya Foundation, we provide small business loans starting at PHP 6,000. Each client will then be a part of a fellowship group where they must commit to meeting weekly for payment and community building.

Early this year, we held a Compulsory Group Training (CGT) with seven prospective clients and their little ones! This day’s session was centered more on motherhood instead of our usual learning sessions. We let the mothers bring their children because this day was about them and their children’s safety.  While they manage their homes, they also contribute to their households, and that is a truly empowering act.

This approach further explains why we support microbusinesses that give mothers the flexibility to manage their time. A strong parental presence at home not only nurtures children but also plays a vital role in protecting them from risks such as Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children (OSAEC). While mothers always want the best for their children, OSAEC is an unfortunate reality that often arises when young children are not closely supervised by their parents.

Through the program, mothers are able to earn, care for their families, and remain actively involved in their children’s lives. It does not have to be always one or the other!
