A Restaurant Owner in the Making

Womokyid, 29, lives in the province with her family and aging parents. When she was younger, her father had an accident at work leaving him unable to work. Because of this, Womokyid had to stop school so she can help her mother take care of her father and earn income for their family. Now that she has a family of her own, her desire is to start a small restaurant of her own so can take care of her family while also earning a stable income.

Fujie, 44, is a single mother. She raised her son alone after her husband has left home many years ago. Her biggest regret was not being able to send her son to school to complete his studies. She hopes to be of help in any way she can.

Overcoming Challenges through Perseverance

Quijangtso first applied in the Husky Energy Tailoring Skills Program for Women in 2019 with the recommendation of the project coordinator and teachers. Faced with a lot of challenges, Quijangtso did not back down and continued to persevere.

Giving Back to the Person who Raised Her

Puyuxia, 19, comes from a rural area. She lives with her grandfather who raised her by himself ever since she was a little girl. Puyuxia's father died in an accident while her mother left them in search of a better life.

One Year On and Thriving

In July 2019, 120 women joined the My First Job Assistant Chef Program, spread out across four programs held in different regions. Sixty of these women have already concluded their internships. Among them is Sonam, who is now thriving in the restaurant where she works. Here is her story.

Lumo lives with her parents and her 10-year-old son. She divorced her husband when their son was just eight years old, and continues raising her son alone while also looking after her elderly parents. Genjyid's parents died when she was a little girl and so she missed the opportunity to go to school. She and her sister took care of each other. She now lives with her daughter who has just started kindergarten. She wants to give her a better life than she had but has little job opportunities. When she joined the Husky Energy Tailoring Skills Program for Women, her life changed.

An Orphan's Life is About to Change

In August this year, 95 girls joined Captivating's Vocational School Scholarship program, bringing the total of girls in this 3 year program to 277. All these girls were found by our on-the-ground partner [Shamtse] to be out of school. Getting these girls back into school where they can learn a skill that will provide them with independence and job opportunities is important to us at Captivating. It's girls like Zhang who bring special meaning to this program.
