Karnali Province is located in Nepal’s far western region and is known for its rugged landscapes and traditional way of life. Despite its natural beauty, the region faces challenges like poverty and limited access to services. Thus, organizations are working to raise awareness and empower local communities, including programs and workshops in schools to address issues like human trafficking and improving living conditions.
Our implementing team in Nepal eagerly organizes workshops at local schools to raise awareness in far-flung provinces in Nepal like Karnali, which are considered high-risk for human trafficking. The team recently held the Hamro Abhiyan program for 98 students from Shree Jana Shakti Secondary School and 102 students from Shree Laxmi Secondary School.

The majority of these students came from underprivileged backgrounds, so it was such a great sight to see these students actively participating and showing remarkable enthusiasm. The workshops covered introductions, briefings, objectives, success stories, and practical education on combating human trafficking. This content resonated deeply with the students, many of whom shared experiences of trafficking in their communities.
Words of Expression and Feedback:
- Shree Laxmi Secondary School: A tenth-grade student confessed that he had previously neglected the struggles of people in slum areas due to superstitions, discrimination, and pressure from elders. However, Hamro Abhiyan changed his perspective, inspiring him towards positivity.
- The Principal of Shree Laxmi Secondary School expressed gratitude for the impactful workshop on human trafficking. The students were pleasantly surprised by the well-designed activities, resulting in a successful engagement. Furthermore, the government’s office representative expressed interest in extending the awareness campaign to other villages, underscoring the effectiveness of the workshop.
- Shree Jana Shakti Secondary School: Students in grade 10 committed to raising awareness in their communities, advocating for kindness and respect towards victims. A grade 8 student discovered that she was unknowingly being controlled by social media platforms and got addicted to it. After participating in the event, she promised to limit the usage of social media and thanked the team for making them aware of the crimes that occur through social media and how pimps lure young people through social media.
Through these workshops, Hamro Abhiyan continues to empower communities and inspire positive change in combating human trafficking one student at a time.
