Huaifeng’s home is on a remote hillside, and it takes her more than an hour of walking before she can ride a bus to school.

Her mother left them when she was only one year old, while her father is working as a security guard in another city. She lives with her brother and her grandparents.
Her grandfather was ill and has difficulty standing up without support. As such, her grandmother usually does all the work at home and in their small farm. Nonetheless, Huaifeng’s grandparents and father are very supportive of her and her brother’s studies. In return, they would also help out with the farm work during summer vacations.
Huaifeng has joined the Captivating ONE MORE YEAR scholarship program this year and is excited that she can keep going to school.
“The scholarship helped reduce the financial burden of our family. It also helped lessen my worries about our future, and prevent me from feeling inferior in school,” said Huaifeng when asked what the scholarship meant for her.
