Weiwei lives in the rural area with her parents, sister, and grandmother. Their family relies on her father’s earnings from farm work, and her mother’s salary from tying steel bars in a construction site. The family’s total earnings, including her grandmother’s annual government subsidy, is barely enough for their household’s expenses, her grandmother’s medical needs, and her and her sister’s education. Her sister is on her first grade in junior middle school while Weiwei has one more year left in her studies.
Despite their frugal lifestyle, Weiwei still manages to study well and get good grades while also helping out her father with farm work during summer vacation. She hopes that through the One More Year Program, she’ll be able to reduce the burden on her family and complete her studies.
