OMY: Mose to Become A Doctor
Mose, a bright and determined student, dreams of becoming a doctor after witnessing her illiterate parents face discrimination at a hospital.
Jiniu Yiqu is one of the many students who are able to continue their studies through the One More Year Scholarship Program. This is her letter to her sponsors.
“Dear Sponsor,
I hope you are doing well. It’s been over a year since I started my studies, and I’m happy to share that my study routine has become more structured. Unlike before, when it felt like I was constantly busy without knowing what I was accomplishing, I gained better control over my time and schedule through continuous self-discipline.
The most significant change in this new semester is the arrival of a new school principal, resulting in a revamped schedule. The school has improved hygiene, discipline, and management. Moreover, with specially trained teachers, there’s a greater emphasis on arts and sports.
This semester, I’ve taken a new step by joining a special sports program. Before making this decision, I had various concerns:
Despite these concerns, I decided to give it a try because I believe that success comes through hard work. I realized I shouldn’t label myself as a failure before even starting. The first week was tough; I had to run 4,000 meters daily, leaving me breathless and nauseous. The final relaxation session was excruciating, with tense muscles that hurt. Despite the tears, I persevered, understanding that every beginning is challenging.
I want to express my deep gratitude to my parents for supporting my education despite our family’s financial difficulties. Your sponsorship has lightened the financial burden on my family and eased my psychological stress. This allows me to focus more on my studies, work harder, strive for college admission, and aspire to contribute to society in the future. Your support benefits me and my parents, who can now help others in need within their capacity, much like you have helped me.
Thank you once again for your invaluable support.”
