OMY: Mose to Become A Doctor
Mose, a bright and determined student, dreams of becoming a doctor after witnessing her illiterate parents face discrimination at a hospital.
Lhamo, 22, was raised alone by her mother. Selling crops has been their primary source of income. However, decades of farming caused her mother’s health to deteriorate, and their earnings are barely enough for their daily needs and her mom’s medicine.
Although Lhamo lacked the confidence as a student, she was very determined to continue studying. Despite her good grades, it was still unlikely for her to proceed to college. Her mother had financial difficulty sending her to school so she decided to stay at home and help out with the household chores.
“I dream of going back to school, but I never tell my mom about it because I know she’d feel sorry for not being able to send me to school. In 2018, I heard that Captivating sponsors girls like me who are eager to study but cannot afford to do so. I mustered up my courage and sent my application and I was very fortunate that someone was willing to sponsor me.”
“I used to be very shy at first which kept me isolated from my classmates during my first month in school. Additionally, I wasn’t coping well with the academic requirements. My grades didn’t improve until I gradually immersed in physical activities with the class, which helped me become more outgoing and sociable. I am able to discuss with my classmates my challenges in school. Not only did my grades improve, but I also made very good friends in class.”
“It has been five semesters since I entered vocational school and took up architecture. I am now on my second month of internship in a construction material test center. Our boss announced that this internship is an opportunity for us to test and prove our character and skills. After the internship period is over, only three will be hired. I value this opportunity and will do my best to perform well and be hired eventually.”
“I wouldn’t have reached this stage without the generous aid of my sponsors. Your kindness is engraved in our hearts forever. Thank you.”
